contemplating design spacing
Well – aren’t you lucky to call Darien, CT home! Some choose Darien to live for the proximity to NYC and easy access to my favorite local airport, Westchester County Airport.

Or were you lured to Darien by the graceful shoreline of sandy beaches balanced by the pastoral woods and open green fields?  Darien residents value the strong sense of community, friendly neighborhoods, and excellent public schools.

Custom Drapes and Interior Design in Darien CT    from Interior Designer Tami Smight

Darien CT interior designer consultationBy any account, if you live in Darien, you have invested in an area of homes which retain value over time, and are highly desirable for those commuting to Grand Central Terminal or the many businesses along the 95 corridor. So although you may have invested heavily to purchase your Darien home, investing in updates to reflect your design style and improve the functionality of the house is money well spent.

As a designer, I am a respectful steward of each home’s architectural heritage, guarding the process to renovate a home without compromising its unique traits which distinguishes it as a special property.  Darien has so many splendid properties, which were originally built as vacation homes for New Yorkers post Civil War era.  This introduces design opportunities to merge today’s modern home conveniences with the preservation of the heritage of the home. Here is a blog post I did on considerations for replacing the front door of your Darien home and a business right in Darien that can help you.

During a Darien paint consultation appointment my client asked me if all the walls in her open concept home should be one color.   That’s a great question, and I’d love to share with you what I advised.  When you have an open floor plan; living, dining, family room and kitchen all open to each other, painting all the walls one color creates a desirable flow, and visually expands the space. In Darien homes, I often recommend an off-white wall color, to accentuate the amazing quality of light in coastal Connecticut.  I just love how paint transforms the room, and the color experiences a metamorphosis based on the time of day and time of year!

“If you are looking for a professional interior designer who “gets it”, look no further. Tami was down to earth, professional and really knew her stuff. She gained my confidence immediately. Tami took my scattered design ideas and streamlined them creating a finished product that was just what I had pictured. You can trust her to make the right choices when you can’t. Tami has several customization options and was able to meet my design AND budget needs. Tami has an eye for freshening up a space. My outdoor room is next! Put your next project in her hands and be ready to be impressed!” Carrie McMahon

So then in your rooms where doors are kept closed like bedrooms, bathrooms, laundry rooms etc,  we can infuse a new color (or not if your look is more contemporary and desire a monochromatic color palette).  Best thing to know, there is not ONE RIGHT WAY or only ONE RIGHT COLOR for your home  The key is to find the color that expresses the light optimally and compliments your art, your design style and the architecture of your home.

Darien, CT is a quick drive from my Weston design studio, making my design services a great choice for your home project.  It all starts with a phone call to discuss the scope of your project, and how my design services can best serve your needs.  I offer an array of services from Custom Window Treatments (think custom draperies, Roman shades, natural woven shades etc.), Paint Consultations, Material Specification for your kitchen or bath renovation, Space Planning to complete home renovations.  I really enjoy creating outdoor rooms to encourage three season outdoor living and entertaining.

 houzz interior designer award winner

In 2001 I left a career as a Labor and Delivery registered nurse at UCLA for a career in interior design.  I feel the two careers are related in a big way.  I love to teach, and nurture my clients.

Interior Design is a beloved passion of mine, and I hope to make it as equally enjoyable for you. It comes down to helping people. It thrills me to no end to help express my client’s idea of a beautiful home.

After all, why do you work so hard if not to return to a safe haven to replenish and renew your spirit and connect with loved ones?

Home is where we celebrate birthdays and holidays, where we raise our children and create memories.

That is my highest calling as a designer, to create a beautiful and functional space that my client anticipates returning to at the end of the day.

I believe you deserve a home which will rise up to meet when you walk in the door.
Let’s create it together!

Speaking of front doors, here is a blog post I did on making a first impression with a beautiful front door replacement.
